Description
For his second solo cd Alan Purves recorded fourteen solo pieces using a wide range of instruments: obscure, like the hapi, srute box, boomwackers and balaphon, or selfmade and named by Purves himself, such as the brimbram, the hemarimba, jawbeans and moanballs. Besides all of these there’s a whole lot of objects that are not meant as musical instruments but which turn out to be so in the hands of Purves, such as the frying pan, wine bottles, toy pigs and cookie jars. Despite his experimental quest for new sounds, Purves’ compositions are always clear, swinging and sometimes meditative with a light ethnic touch.
